June 2025 Roundup
This month's updates from MALT

Happy Pride! This time of year is always MALT's busiest. In addition to co-op chores and summer vacations, many of us have performances, vending, or volunteering obligations during Pride. We hope we'll see you out! 🏳️🌈
This is our first monthly roundup email as we test out our new website. We're currently in a "soft launch" where we gradually tell friends and community members. We'll write more about our launch timeline later, but here's some info on the technology we're using:

This year has been extra busy as we're mid-way through moving five (!) new members into MALT - which will bring us to full occupancy for the first time in two years (!!). That's taken a lot of repairs and repainting to get rooms ready, and we still have a lot of onboarding ahead of us.
However, we do expect to have one room opening around September when a sublet ends. Applications aren't officially open yet, but it's a good time to reach out if you're thinking about joining us.
Upcoming events
We keep a regular pace of smaller events like movie nights (a few of us caught Sinners in theaters recently). But the biggest social event this June is our yearly friends-only Solstice Party. We're going with a fae/fairy theme and are so excited to see everyone's costumes!
Every June also features a Quarterly Planning Meeting. This is a long-term planning meeting where we discuss budgeting, home improvement, and non-profit incorporation. We're very close to filing for incorporation (which is why we recently launched this website), but it's become a more challenging environment thanks to the Trump administration.
This year, we're trying something different and scheduling our QPM on the same day as a "Co-Op Mixer". This is an opportunity to help people find new housemates, and maybe even get their own co-ops started. We'd be thrilled if you passed the info along to anyone who's looking.
You can RSVP for either event here:

Daily life

Food is a very important part of living at MALT. Each house sets their own meal schedule, and every few weeks, we also run a cross-house Community Meal. And sometimes, we'll just gather for an impromptu feast like last weekend's smoked ribs and mac'n'cheese.

One of the biggest challenges we face every summer is keeping up with gardening. We've written off the raised beds this year, but there's still a lot of lawn weeding, and soon there'll be fresh fruit to pick. If you want to get your hands dirty and help out in the garden some time, just reach out to one of us.

Another ongoing project for 2025 is stocking up on bulk supplies, and making sure that we have organized and usable storage for a community of our size. That includes food but also cleaning and medical supplies. Bulk buying can be very complex and contentious, but if we do it right, we'll improve both our cost savings and our disaster preparedness.
That's it for June! We hope you have a fabulous Pride, and that you can come out to some of MALT's events this month.
