February 2026 Update

Let it snow... and snow... and snow...

February 2026 Update
White snow on red brick

We spent a lot of this month dealing with ice and snow... and would you believe there's supposed to be even more this week? It feels like this is the new normal for the Boston area with climate change: nothing for most of winter, and then a disastrous few weeks at the end.

Upcoming events

Our main event in March is our Quarterly Planning Meeting, which will take place on Saturday, March 21 from 10:00am – 12:00pm. That will be followed by a home improvement walkthrough at 1 PM, and a bylaws work session at 3 PM. If you'd like to come and learn about our plans for non-profit incorporation, reach out!

Otherwise, we're sticking to smaller community meals and focusing on our interview process for new housemates. We're excited to reboot our social calendar when our new community space becomes available.

Two open rooms

NOTE: We're looking for ideas about where to advertise our room openings! We're especially interested in reaching people who are interested in intentional communities, or who are trying to relocate to the Boston area.

We are currently conducting interviews for two open rooms. Our priority is to find new members with skills relevant to managing collective housing, and who could see themselves staying for at least several years. If you think this sounds like you or one of your friends, please start a conversation! We'd love to invite you to some events and get to know each other.

Our website's "Housing" page will always have the most up-to-date info on what's available and what we're looking for:

Housing
Come live at one of MALT’s houses!

Please feel free to forward our housing page, or this email, to a friend or to another mailing list. We're especially open to working with people planning to relocate to Massachusetts.

Getting our hands dirty

Now is a great time of year to plan our garden, place orders for new plants, and generally get ready for a frenzy of activity in the spring. Unfortunately, all of our apple trees had their bark stripped by a hungry critter - we're likely to lose them, so another round of tree planting might be in our future.

The culprit: a skunk, maybe?

The light at the end of the tunnel

Our construction project has been the main focus over the past months. It impacts where we can cook, what kinds of events we can host, and even our laundry schedules. We're really excited that the end is in sight!

A Gantt chart of construction timelines

Delays are likely, but we think the bulk of the construction will be done by May. Then there will be some time required to restock the kitchen, install appliances and electronics, and do interior decorating. By the time we feel settled, it will have been almost a year since the damage occurred.

That's it for February; we hope you're staying warm!
