June 2026 Update
A rainbow over Malden earlier this month

Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈 This month at the co-op we've got more ripe raspberries and cherries than we can handle, baby animals, and the start of an event calendar. Read on for more!

Upcoming events

It's been an unexpectedly quiet year, but we finally have some events to announce!

If you've been to MALT before and want to help us get our spaces in order, consider swinging by for a work session. Dumpster sessions focus on hauling accumulated junk out of common spaces. Setup sessions involve measuring, cleaning, furniture shopping, mounting art on walls, and everything else required to make our new common areas usable.

If all goes well with construction and with our work sessions, we'll have a tentative first movie screening for the year at the end of the month. Either way, you can expect at least a few social events every month going forward.

  • Tuesday, June 30th, 3 to 5 PM: Dumpster cleanout session
  • Thursday, July 2nd, 5 to 7 PM: Dumpster cleanout session
  • Saturday, July 4th, 2 to 6 PM: 1F setup session
  • Sunday, July 12th, 10 AM to 4 PM: 1F setup session
  • Sunday, July 19th, 10 AM to 5 PM: 1F setup session
  • Sunday, July 26th, 7 PM: MALT FilmFeast: I Saw The TV Glow (2024)
    • NOTE: We're trying out the "Waitlist" feature on Partiful so that we're not posting our address to the whole internet. Reach out if you have issues with it!

Just wrappin' up another season

At MALT we hold a Community Meeting once a month focused on short-term concerns, and a Quarterly Planning Meeting every 3 months focused on longer term planning and finances.

This month's Summer QPM was the start of our 3rd rent cycle using a process to define rents as a community. The formula is complicated, but we aim to stay slightly below area rent while being more predictable and stable against increases. Collected rent money goes to repairing and improving the properties.

At each of these meetings, we also revisit our themes for the year and see how we're doing. Here's what we're working on lately:

  • Sustainability
    • Maintenance
    • Accountability and holding to our values
    • Incorporation
    • Debt reduction
  • Foundational structures
    • Community contract
    • Resetting common spaces for specific purposes
  • Social
    • Internal events
    • External events

Deliveries, big and small

Believe it or not, we're about one month away from construction being complete! Most of what's left is final details like finishing electrical work, installing fixtures, and fixing up the paint job.

We're holding off on a full overview of our new space until everything is finished and decorated. However, here are some recent deliveries: community space appliances, a yearly dumpster haul, and some adorable visitors. (Disclaimer: Please do not pick up random animals! This was a necessary rescue after a nest in our yard was attacked - but they're in good hands now.)

That's it for this month. Hope to see you in person soon!
